As the name suggests, the Submission Match is defined by a specific type of maneuver: submissions. In this match, the only way to win is by forcing your opponent to submit, or "tap out," by making them signal defeat, usually by tapping their hand to the mat. There are no pinfalls, count-outs, or disqualifications allowed in this match.
Although disqualifications are not part of the rules, the use of foreign objects is rare in a Submission Match.
This stipulation is most commonly used in 1 vs 1 matches but can also be applied to tag team matches, Triple Threats, and other match types.
Additionally, the Submission Match can be combined with a Iron Man stipulation to form an Ultimate Submission Match, where falls can only be earned through submissions.
