The 2 out of 3 Falls Match follows the same rules as a Singles Match or Tag Team Match (if teams are involved), but with the key difference that the match does not end after the first fall.

To win, a competitor must secure two falls in their favor. Falls can be achieved through pinfall, submission, count-out, or disqualification (DQ).

Typically, after each fall, a brief rest period (usually 30 seconds) is allowed to give the wrestler who lost the fall a chance to recover. However, this rest period is not always enforced.

Variants

  • A notable variation of the 2 out of 3 Falls Match is the Three Stages of Hell Match (known as Three Degrees of Pain in TNA or Hell of War Match in Lucha Underground). In this format, each fall features a different match type, creating a more complex and varied match structure.
  • Another variant is the Best of n Series, where "n" represents the maximum number of matches that can be contested in the series (e.g., Best of 5 Series, Best of 7 Series, etc.). The matches take place over several nights, and to win the series a wrestler must win more than half of the matches (e.g., 3 matches in a Best of 5 Series, 4 matches in a Best of 7 Series, etc.).
