On this page, we gather lesser-known match types involving cages of various shapes and sizes, with highly dangerous stipulations typical of hardcore promotions. Here are the main ones:

  • Chamber of Horrors Match (or Electric Chair Match): Two teams of four face off inside an enclosed cage, with in the middle there is a smaller cage with an electric chair connected to a lever (which was attached to the outer cage and six feet off the ground) with an electric chair. To win, they must tie an opponent to the chair and switch the lever on.
  • Doomsday Cage Match (or Tower of Doom or Triple Decker Cage Match in the last days, as a reference to the cage being used in the finale of the film "Ready to Rumble"): A three-level cage, with the middle one split into two rooms, used in WCW, where teams fight across the levelsaiming to reach the highest cage, where pinfall or submission are allowed.
  • Kennel from Hell Match: The ring is surrounded by a Steel Cage and an Hell in a Cell, with hostile attack dogs (Rottweilers) between them. Wrestlers must escape both cages to win. This match was seen only once in WWF Unforgiven 1999, featuring Al Snow and The Big Boss Man.
  • Lion's Den Match: A match held inside an octagonal cage, designed to mimic MMA fights and the cage used in UFC. Victory is achieved by knockout or submission. This was Ken Shamrock's specialty match, notably featured at SummerSlam 1998 and 1999, where he fought Owen Hart and Steve Blackman, respectively.
  • Prison Yard Match: A TNA stipulation where the goal is to lock an opponent inside a small cage inside the ring. First featured at TNA Against All Odds 2007, with Sting defeating Abyss.
  • Rage in a Cage Match: An oval-shaped steel cage, where the participants are encouraged to bring different weapons to the match. This cage is used for two different match types: one for tag team or singles matches, with wins by pinfall or submission; the other for 20 or more wrestlers that take part in a battle royale inside the cage (used by NWA Florida), and a wrestler is eliminated by being thrown through the cage door.
  • Suspended in a Shark Cage Match: A single or tag team match, with a superstar or a manager locked in a shark cage (normally used for underwater snorkeling to protect the observer from the sharks) and suspended above the ring, to keep him from meddling in the match.
  • Triple Cage Match: Similar to the Doomsday Cage Match but with three differently-sized cages (used by WCW and its predecessor, JCP). Wrestlers pass through trapdoors in the ceilings, and victory can be achieved by retrieving an object from the top or by escaping the structure, depending on the variation.
