An Iron Man Match is a time-limited contest, typically lasting 30 or 60 minutes, where the winner is the wrestler who accumulates the most falls by the end of the allotted time. Falls can be achieved through pinfall, submission, count-out, or disqualification. However, in some variations, count-outs and disqualifications may not count towards the score, with points being awarded only for pinfalls and submissions.
If the match ends in a tie, the wrestlers or officials (such as the referee or a promoter) can agree to an overtime period. The match then continues under sudden death rules, where the first fall during this extra time determines the winner. If no agreement on overtime is reached, the match ends in a draw.
After each fall, a short break (usually 15-30 seconds) may be given to allow the wrestler who suffered the fall to recover, though this rule is not universally applied.
The Iron Man Match is primarily used for one-on-one contests but can also be applied to tag team matches. When female wrestlers are involved, it is known as an Iron Woman Match.
Additionally, the Iron Man Match can be combined with a submission stipulation to form an Ultimate Submission Match, where falls can only be earned through submissions.
