The First Blood Match is a stipulation that harkens back to historical duels where victory was determined by drawing first blood. In this match, the objective is to make the opponent bleed from any part of their body.
To win, a wrestler must cause their opponent to start bleeding. It’s not necessarily required that the victorious wrestler be the one to cause the bleeding; if the opponent begins to bleed for any reason, the match ends in their defeat. The referee must confirm that the losing wrestler is indeed bleeding for the match to be declared over.
This match does not involve victory conditions like pinfall, submission, count-out, or disqualification. It is exclusively contested in a 1 vs 1 format.
The first First Blood Match in WWE history saw Kane defeat Steve Austin at WWF King of the Ring 1998.
