A Lumberjack Match is essentially a standard singles match, with the contest ending by pinfall, submission, count-out, or disqualification. The key difference is that the ring is surrounded by a group of other wrestlers known as lumberjacks.

If a competitor is thrown out of the ring, the lumberjacks are allowed to attack them and throw them back into the ring, without incurring a disqualification. However, lumberjacks are not allowed to actively interfere inside the ring, or it may result in DQ.

Typically, lumberjacks are divided into face and heel groups, who will either assist or hinder the wrestlers based on their alignment. In some cases, all lumberjacks might be from the same faction, either all heels or, more rarely, all faces.

There is a female version of this match called the Lumberjill Match, which follows the same rules as the Lumberjack Match but with female wrestlers.

While most commonly used for one-on-one matches, the Lumberjack Match can also be adapted for Handicap matches and potentially other match types.
