The Punjabi Prison Match features one of the most unique cage structures in wrestling. In this match, the ring is surrounded by two cages: the first is similar in shape to the cage used in a Steel Cage match, starting from the apron ring and standing 16 feet (4.8 m) high without a roof. The second cage is much larger, creating an inner ring area, standing 20 feet (6 m) tall from the ground, octagonal in shape, and also without a roof.

What sets these cages apart is the material they are made from: they are constructed entirely of reinforced bamboo, adorned with various disturbing elements such as wooden spikes, ropes, and straps, adding to the danger of the structure.

This match does not allow for victory by pinfall or submission, and count-outs are also absent due to the cage setting. It is a no disqualification match; in the space between the two cages, there are also two tables with various themed weapons (sticks, whips, etc.).

The only way to win is to escape both cages. From the larger octagonal cage, exit is only possible by climbing over the top, while the smaller cage features four small square doors (one on each side of the ring) measuring 4x4 feet (1.2x1.2 m). Each of these doors, initially closed, can be opened only once by a referee at the request of either wrestler and remains open for 60 seconds before being permanently locked shut. If both wrestlers are still inside the ring after all four doors have been opened and closed, the only way to escape the first cage is to climb over the top.

This stipulation can only be contested in a 1 vs 1 format and is used exclusively in WWE. It was introduced in 2006 and is associated with The Great Khali, from whose home region (Punjab) the match derives its name, as well as other Indian-origin wrestlers like Jinder Mahal. To date, only three Punjabi Prison Matches have taken place in history.
