A Barbed Wire Match is an extremely violent stipulation often used in more hardcore wrestling promotions like the now-defunct ECW or CZW. In this match, the ropes of the ring are replaced or wrapped with barbed wire, creating a brutal environment for the competitors. This type of match does not allow for disqualifications (DQ) or count-outs, and victory is achieved through pinfall or submission.

A notable variation is the Barbed Wire Massacre, where, in addition to the barbed wire ropes, the ring area is surrounded by barbed wire-covered boards and other weapons. These additional weapons are available for use by the participants throughout the match.

One of the most famous Barbed Wire Matches took place at ECW Born to Be Wired 1997, where Sabu defeated Terry Funk despite suffering a severe arm injury during the bout.
