GAEA Japan was a Women pro wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan.
The GAEA JAPAN promotion was founded on August 25, 1994 by Chigusa Nagayo, Yuka Sugiyama & Kazuro Kimura, and it ceased operations on April 10, 2005.
GAEA Japan would begin in 1994 after the legendary Chigusa Nagayo came out of retirement the year prior. GAEA would run on the mentality and toughness of old school joshi wrestling, with strong athletic orientation and not the growing idol formula at the time. GAEA’s roster included a number of top-tier joshi talent, and even formed a partnership with WCW to exchange talent such as Akira Hokuto and Meiko Satomura. Its most famous storyline was a reunion of the popular 1980s tag team the Crush Gals, consisting of Nagayo and partner Lioness Asuka. GAEA would close in 2005 even as it was profitable, due to Nagayo’s desire to retire, and its talent expressing the want to move on.
