The championship was first established on June 19, 2002, and the inaugural champion was AJ Styles.
The title is exclusive to X Division, promoted under the motto "It is not about weight limits, it is about no limits".
The current champion is Cedric Alexander, who won the title on the episode of TNA Impact! on May 14, 2026, and has been reigning for 1 days.
