Continental / Southeastern Championship Wrestling was a Territory pro wrestling promotion operating in the United States, based in Knoxville, Tennesee.
The CCW promotion was founded on October 25, 1974 by Ron Fuller, and it ceased operations on November 12, 1989.
Southeastern Championship Wrestling began when Ron Fuller of the Welch-Fuller wrestling family bought the Knoxville/Eastern Tennessee stake of NWA Mid-America from promoter John Cazana, proving successful as he soon bought up the Alabama territory from the former Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling company in 1977-1978. An exodus of talent left SECW in 1978 due to backstage politics critical of the Fuller family, forming competition in the outlaw All-Star Championship Wrestling, which soon after became the Kentucky-based outlaw International Championship Wrestling. Because of these losses, Fuller would sell the Tennessee end of the territory to other nearby promotions, though he would hold steadfast in the Alabama end of the territory. In 1985, Fuller would regain the Tennessee end of the territory and change the territory name to Continental Championship Wrestling for a more national reach. After being bought out by David Woods in 1988 and renamed once more, the promotion would close in 1989, and is now considered a ”lost promotion” due to lack of footage despite its popularity in the South.
