Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling was a Territory pro wrestling promotion operating in the United States, based in Dothan, Alabama.
The GCCW promotion was founded on December 14, 1954 by Roy Welch, and it ceased operations on March 26, 1977.
Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling would begin in 1954 as a nameless promotion under the control of NWA Mid-America co-promoter Roy Welch, who purchased the Mobile/Southern Alabama and Pensacola/Western Florida regional rights from Leroy McGuirk, before bequeathing booking power to his son Buddy Fuller. In its early years, the promotion only did seasonal shows, nearly shutting down due to Fuller’s financial struggles, before being saved by his cousin Lee Fields. Alongside other local promoters of the region, the promotion would thrive for two decades before Fields sold it to cousin Ron Fuller sometime in 1977-1978. The regional end of this promotion would later be represented in the expansive Continental Championship Wrestling’s run from the mid to late 1980s.
