The competition was established on April 3, 2005, and the first edition was won by Edge / Adam Copeland , while the last edition took place on July 6, 2024 and was won by Drew McIntyre .
The winner of the Money in the Bank ladder match obtains a briefcase that contains a contract for a championship match of his choice, which can be "cashed in" at a time and place within the next year.
