The competition was established on November 21, 1980, and the first edition was won by Antonio Inoki and Bob Backlund , while the last edition took place on December 8, 2024 and was won by Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi .
This tournament is for heavyweight tag teams. Statring from 2012, the winners earn a shot at the IWGP Tag Team Championship (if not already the reigning champions).
