The tournament was established on March 30, 2022, and the first edition was won by Britt Baker , while the last edition took place on May 25, 2025 and was won by Sasha Banks / Mercedes Moné .
This tournament was named in honor of Owen Hart, in partnership with The Owen Hart Foundation. The winner receives a trophy called "The Owen" and a commemorative championship belt, and starting from 2024 also an AEW Women's World Championship match.
