The championship was first established on July 18, 1992, and the inaugural champion was "Dr. Death" Steve Williams & Terry Gordy.
This is a newer version of the WCW World Tag Team Championship, with its own distinct lineage.
The current champion is the team of Knox & Murdoch (Mike Knox and Trevor Murdoch), who won the title at NWA Back to the Territories on September 3, 2024, and has been reigning for 78 days.
