MicroLeague Wrestling is the first professional wrestling simulation video game based on the World Wrestling Federation (WWF / WWE), released in 1987 for Commodore 64 and Atari ST and in 1989 for Amiga and DOS. It was developed by MicroLeague and published by MicroLeague. The game is part of the company's MicroLeague sports series, which included MicroLeague Baseball.
The gameplay involves turn-based strategy. Players select one of several pre-set matches and choose their wrestler's actions via a menu. Wrestlers are depicted using digitized photographs from actual matches.
Official Game Description:
Welcome to a new arena for the World Wrestling Federation - on your home computer with Micro League's WWF Match Disk. It's your strategy, not eye-hand coordination, that guide the moves of your wrestler. You can play against another competitor or go up against the computer who manages the opposing wrestler. In either case you call the moves and if they're executed, you'll boost your power and inflict grievous damage on your opponent. Once a wrestler's damage reaches a certain level, which depends on the type of match, one can go for the pin!
There are different odds for being able to execute a move, odds which vary depending on what your move is, the strategy move by the other wrestler, and by the relative dominance of each wrestler at any particular point in the match. The odds aren't stacked by the computer to favor any wrestler because your strategy and maneuvers determine who wins the match.
Whether Hulk Hogan, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, or Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff win the Heavyweight Championship - it's all up to you. But, keep in mind that one match won't decide it forever. Just like in the WWF, in Micro League Wrestling the tides of wrestling warfare do change and no two bouts will proceed the same way. Add the ringside commentary of Vince McMahon, Bruno Sammartino, and Jesse "The Body" Ventura, and anything can happen!
