The IWGP Heavyweight Championship was a World Title contested in New Japan Pro Wrestling, by men wrestlers.
The championship was first established on June 12, 1987, and the inaugural champion was Antonio Inoki.
This is a newer version of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship (original version), with its own distinct lineage.
The IWGP Heavyweight Championship was retired on March 4, 2021, when it was unified into the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, with the final champion being Kota Ibushi.
