Global Wrestling Federation was a pro wrestling promotion operating in the United States, based in Dallas, Texas, USA.
The GWF TEXAS promotion was founded on June 28, 1991 by Max Andrews & Joe Pedicino, and it ceased operations on September 25, 1994.
The Global Wrestling Federation is often considered one of the last gasps of territory-style wrestling in the United States, born out of the demise of World Class Championship Wrestling. The GWF would be an early home for many names that would eventually become famous during the Monday Night Wars, notably Cactus Jack, Scott Levy/Raven, and Booker T. With the historic Dallas Sportatorium as its base, shows aired weekly on ESPN, and were syndicated worldwide through international networks.
Many notable angles that occurred included the first ever “Bungee Match” in wrestling, hiring a psychiatrist for its wrestlers, as well as The Cartel stable of heel wrestlers. A tribute show to Kerry Von Erich aired in 1993, an acknowledgment of other promotions rare in wrestling at the time. The promotion closed in 1994 as WCCW legend Chris Adams was about to make a main event run, before the promotion’s abrupt cancellation.
Rights to the GWF library currently belong to ESPN, with the WWE Network gaining access in 2013.
