When it comes to reliving the career of WWE Hall of Famer and WWE 2K16 cover Superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in 2K Showcase, it wouldn’t be complete without WWE Hall of Famers Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler calling the action. In WWE 2K16, the legendary duo reunites for what could be the last time in a WWE video game.
Starting with Steve Austin’s breakout match against Jake “The Snake” Roberts at King of the Ring in 1996, 2K Showcase mode covers all of the biggest moments of Austin’s career.
“We're getting great feedback on Jerry Lawler and me reuniting for [WWE 2K16],” Jim Ross wrote in a recent blog post. “I'd guess that this will be the final time that the two of us will work together in any WWE projects at least to the best of my knowledge. I hope that the fans support our efforts on this new video game that is loaded with new innovations, whistles and bells. Jerry and I did not miss a beat and we got to call a ton of Stone Cold bouts for the game.”
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler aren’t the only great commentary team in WWE 2K16, as the game introduces an additional three-man commentary team for the very first time in the franchise. Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler align for Monday Night Raw alongside fellow commentator and WWE Hall of Famer John “Bradshaw” Layfield, who is excited to “get to tell them to shut up in a video game,” according to a recent Twitter post. The commentary teams recorded thousands of new lines of dialogue to tell every possible story in the ring. Nearly all audio was recorded with all three commentators in the studio at the same time to ensure a natural and authentic flow.
